How to Install French Curls Braiding Hair: Step-by-Step Guide
French Curls braiding hair is one of the most popular protective styles right now — and for good reason. The soft, bouncy curls look stunning, last for weeks, and work beautifully on all hair types. If you've been wondering how to install French Curls braiding hair at home, this guide walks you through every step.
What You'll Need
- 4–6 packs of LADYB's French Curls Braiding Hair (see our pack guide below)
- Rat-tail comb
- Edge control or gel
- Hair clips or sectioning clips
- Scissors
- Mousse or curl refresher spray (optional, for finishing)
Step 1: Prep Your Natural Hair
Start with clean, moisturised hair. Wash and deep condition your natural hair at least a day before installation. Detangle thoroughly and stretch your hair slightly — either by blow-drying on a low heat setting or by banding — so it's easier to braid down.
Step 2: Section Your Hair
Using your rat-tail comb, part your hair into neat sections. The size of each section will determine the thickness of your braids. For a fuller look, use smaller sections. For a more dramatic, chunky style, go slightly larger. Clip away the sections you're not working on to keep things tidy.
Step 3: Braid Down Your Natural Hair
Cornrow your natural hair flat to your scalp in the direction you want your braids to fall. Keep the cornrows tight but not so tight they cause tension or discomfort. If you prefer individual braids rather than a cornrow base, you can also simply braid your natural hair down in small plaits.
Step 4: Prepare Your French Curls Hair
Take your LADYB's French Curls out of the pack and gently separate the strands. Fold a small section of hair in half and loop it around the base of your cornrow or natural braid using a latch hook or your fingers. The fold point should sit right at the root.
Step 5: Braid Down the Extension Hair
Once the French Curls hair is attached at the root, divide it into two sections and braid it together with your natural hair for about 1–2 inches down. This secures the extension and creates a seamless blend. After a few inches, let the curls hang freely — that's the beauty of French Curls, the curl pattern does the rest of the work for you.
Step 6: Seal the Ends
If you want to prevent any unravelling at the tips, you can use a glue to seal the tip. This works especially well with synthetic French Curls hair.
Step 7: Style and Finish
Once all your braids are in, fluff the curls gently with your fingers to add volume. Apply a light mousse or curl refresher to enhance the curl definition. Lay your edges with edge control for a polished finish.
